Digital SAT Basics
Making the shift from paper and pencil to digital testing might seem like a big change, but we're here to break it down for you. Let's go through everything you need to know in simple terms:
1. When Will This Happen?
Starting in the spring of 2023, international test centers will switch to digital testing. In the spring of 2024, U.S. schools and test centers will follow suit. So, you'll be taking your PSAT™ 8/9 and PSAT/NMSQT® digitally from the fall of 2023, with the digital PSAT™ 10 coming up in the spring of 2024.
2. What Devices Can You Use?
You have options! You can use your own laptop (whether it's Windows or MacOS), an iPad, school-owned computers, or school-managed Chromebooks. Don't worry, you'll download a special testing app before the big day.
3. Internet and Battery Life
You'll need the internet to start and finish your test, but don't stress about outages. The testing app is built to handle internet hiccups. If your computer battery gets low, just plug in, restart, and pick up where you left off. Easy, right?
4. The Custom Testing App
Your digital SAT Suite tests will happen on a special app designed by the College Board. It's like a tool built just for you! This app has features like marking questions for review, a timer, a calculator for the Math section, a reference sheet for formulas, and even a highlighting and note-taking tool.
5. What If You Don't Have a Device?
No problem! If you're taking the SAT on a weekend and you don't have a device, you can borrow one from the College Board. We've got you covered.
Remember, this transition is all about making things smoother and more convenient for you. So, when the time comes, just bring your charged device (don't forget your charger, just in case!), and get ready to show off your skills on the digital SAT. You've got this!
