Digital SAT FAQ - Device Lending
Navigating device lending for the digital SAT? We’ve got you covered with answers to common questions:
Q1: How do students request a device?
- A: During SAT registration, students can specify if they need a device. If they do, they’ll have an option to request one from College Board. They'll answer a few questions to confirm eligibility and ensure smooth delivery.
Q2: How far in advance should I register if I need to borrow a device?
- A: To ensure timely delivery, students borrowing a device must register and request it at least 30 days prior to test day. Missing this deadline? No worries, they can register for a later date or borrow from school, a friend, or family.
Q3: Who is eligible to borrow a device?
- A: College Board is lending devices to support students taking the digital SAT. International students have had access since spring 2023. Domestic students can request devices for spring 2024 once registration opens in fall 2023.
Q4: Why are you requiring a counselor or other sponsor to verify eligibility?
- A: Some students might need extra verification. For international students in College Board programs and those with fee waivers, this process is expedited.
Q5: How are you shipping devices around the world for international administrations?
- A: Devices will be sent directly to test centers. College Board is partnering with various channels to ensure timely delivery based on regional needs.
Q6: Who can verify eligibility if students can't reach their counselor?
- A: Any non-family adult can verify eligibility—like a sponsor, teacher, school administrator, or a college access program employee.
Q7: How will students receive their device?
- A: Devices will be ready at the test center on exam day. Students will receive them upon arrival.
Q8: What kind of device will students receive?
- A: In most cases, students will get managed Chromebooks, either brand new or like-new. In certain areas, they may receive a different laptop or tablet model.
Q9: How do students set up their device?
- A: Devices will come pre-configured for SAT testing. On test day, students will arrive 30 minutes early, log into the Bluebook™ testing app, and complete the setup process.
Q10: How can students practice for the SAT with a borrowed device?
- A: Students can practice using any device with the Bluebook™ app. Full-length digital practice tests can also be downloaded and printed from the College Board website. However, it's recommended to use the PDF version only if a computer isn’t available for practice.
