Digital SAT - Support and Accessibility
For students with disabilities, taking the digital SAT Suite is designed to be just as accessible as the paper-based version. The College Board understands that every student is unique, and they're committed to providing the necessary accommodations. Let's explore the different supports available:
1. Extra Time and Scheduling
- Extended Time: This means you get additional time to complete the test. It could be time and a half (50% more), double time (100% more), or even more than double time.
- Extra/Extended Breaks: If you need some extra time to stretch and recharge, you can request longer breaks.
2. Reading/Seeing Text
- Text to Speech: This tool helps by reading the text out loud. It's like having someone read the questions to you.
- Braille with Raised Line Drawings (Contracted): For students who read Braille, this accommodation ensures that the test materials are accessible.
3. Recording Answers
- Writer/Scribe to Record Responses: If writing is a challenge, you can have someone else write down your answers for you.
- Braille Writer: This allows you to record your responses in Braille.
4. Modified Setting
- Small-Group Setting: If you work better in a smaller group, this accommodation provides a more comfortable testing environment.
- Wheelchair Accessibility: Ensuring that the testing location is accessible for students in wheelchairs.
5. Other Supports
- Permission for Food/Drink/Medication: If you have specific needs like having food, drink, or medication during the test, you can request permission.
- Permission to Test Blood Sugar: For students who need to monitor their blood sugar levels during the test.
- Auditory Amplification/FM System: This tool helps make sure you can clearly hear instructions or any audio elements during the test.
Remember, these are just examples, and if you have a documented disability, the College Board will consider any reasonable accommodation to ensure you have a fair testing experience. The process for requesting accommodations remains the same, so don't hesitate to reach out for the support you need. Your unique abilities are valued, and with the right accommodations, you'll be set up for success on the digital SAT Suite. Good luck!
