Digital SAT - What’s Changing?

As we embrace the transition to the Digital SAT Suite, some exciting changes are coming our way. Let's break down what's new and how it will affect your testing experience:

Digital SAT Suite-Level Changes:

  1. Shorter Testing Time: The digital SAT Suite tests will be shorter, taking 2 hours and 14 minutes instead of the previous 3 hours. This means you'll have more time to focus on each question.
  2. More Time per Question: With the reduced testing time, you'll have more time to think through each question. It's all about assessing your skills and knowledge, not how quickly you can answer.
  3. Faster Score Reports: Say goodbye to weeks of waiting. Now, you'll get your scores in just a few days, allowing you to plan your next steps more efficiently. Learn more about scores and reporting.
  4. Enhanced Resources: Alongside your scores, you'll receive information about local two-year colleges, workforce training programs, and career options. It's about connecting you with opportunities that match your achievements.
  5. Enhanced Security: Going digital ensures that each student gets a unique test form, making it nearly impossible to share answers. This adds an extra layer of security to the testing process.
  6. More Flexibility for Administering Tests: States, schools, and districts will have more options for administering SAT Suite tests, making it easier for everyone involved.

Digital SAT Section-Level Changes:

Reading and Writing:

  1. Single Section: The Reading and Writing sections are now combined, streamlining the assessment of English language arts and content area literacy. Learn more about the Reading & Writing section.
  2. Shorter Passages, More Topics: You'll encounter a wider range of topics in shorter passages, mirroring the kind of reading you'll do in college.
  3. One Question per Passage: Instead of multiple questions for a few long passages, each passage (or pair) will have a single associated question.

Math:

  1. Calculator Usage: Calculators are allowed throughout the Math section. This change aligns with how calculators are used in schools and the real world. Check the calculator policy.
  2. No More Calculator Portions: There's no longer a separate no-calculator section. This simplifies the test and reflects real-world calculator usage.
  3. Shorter Word Problems: In-context questions (word problems) have been made shorter to ensure they don't create unnecessary barriers for students. Explore the types of math tested.

These changes are designed to make the Digital SAT Suite a more flexible, secure, and relevant assessment of your skills and knowledge. Embrace these updates, and you'll be well-prepared for success! Dive deeper into the Digital SAT structure.
