Digital SAT - What to Expect on Test Day

As you gear up for test day, it's crucial to be in the know about the procedures and rules. Here's a step-by-step guide:

1. Checking for Test Center Closings

Leading up to your test and on the day itself, keep an eye out for any test center closings. Make sure to verify that your test center location hasn't changed or closed. It's also wise to check the test center's website on the morning of the test.

2. Arriving at the Test Center

Be punctual! Your admission ticket will have your specific arrival time. Test centers open their doors at 7:45 a.m., and they close at 8 a.m. (unless stated otherwise on your admission ticket). Remember, once testing has begun, late arrivals can't be accommodated. If you're late or miss the test, you'll need to re-register, and standard testing fees will apply.

3. The Testing Process

Between 8:15 and 8:45 a.m., your proctor will initiate the check-in process. Please note that your seat is assigned, not chosen by you. Here's a rundown of what happens next:

  • You'll log into the center's Wi-Fi and open the Bluebook™ application, which will guide you through instructions.
  • The proctor can assist with procedural questions, but not test content.
  • You'll receive a start code from the proctor. Once entered, testing will begin, and Bluebook will keep track of your remaining time in each test section.
  • Each student is timed individually, so breaks and test completion times may vary.
  • The test comprises two parts (modules) for each section (Reading and Writing, and Math), with each module having its own timer.
  • You can move back and forth between questions in a module and review your answers until time expires.
  • Once you've moved on from a module, you can't return to it.
  • After the test, your answers are automatically submitted. Don't fret if there's an issue—your answers are saved on your device, giving you time for a resubmission if needed.

4. The Digital Testing Application (Bluebook™)

Bluebook is a specially designed app for the digital SAT. It comes with various features, including a test preview to help you get comfortable with it before the actual test. You can download it from the Bluebook website along with installation instructions.

During the test, you'll have access to tools like a reference sheet and calculator for math questions, an annotation tool for reading and writing, the option to cross out answer choices on multiple-choice questions, and more.

5. Breaks

You'll have one scheduled 10-minute break between test sections. If you need an unscheduled break, remember it'll cut into your testing time.

Remember:

  • Keep your device open during breaks.
  • Always have your ID with you.
  • If you brought a calculator, it should stay on your desk during breaks.

6. Dismissal

Chances are, you'll finish before noon. Once the test ends, your answers are automatically submitted. If there's a submission hiccup, you'll have time to complete it—your work is saved on your device.

After the test, your proctor will collect any scratch paper, return your belongings, and quietly dismiss you since other students might still be testing.

7. Testing Devices

You can use various devices, like laptops (Windows or MacOS), iPads, Windows tablets, or school-managed Chromebooks. Bluebook must be downloaded beforehand. Ensure your device can connect to Wi-Fi, is fully charged, and have a power cord or portable charger on hand, just in case. Also, bring an external mouse for laptops and an external keyboard if your device is a tablet.

8. Prohibited Devices

Mobile phones and unauthorized electronic devices are a no-go. Test administration staff will collect and hold them during the test, including breaks. Using or attempting to access them will lead to dismissal, canceled scores, and possible device confiscation. Keep your devices tucked away!

Remember, College Board isn't responsible for any loss or damage to personal items during the test. This includes electronic devices, so be sure to keep an eye on your belongings.
